John Burgeman wrapping paper

I hate it when you have an awesome gift for a friend but you can't get that awesome wrapping paper to go with it. Well John Burgerman has just made life that much easier. John, who does contemporary art, has done many projects with Kidrobot and other big names.

LOOM CAFE, COMO, ITALY

In New Zealand, funky modern cafes are a rare site, what more to say one in a furniture store. There are the occasional cafes Mojo, Starbucks, Expressoholic and others of the like. But they are nothing compared to the Loom, which is why I believe they deserve a mention. The Loom Café is part of the high-end designer store, Latessitura in Como, which sells a collection of fabulous classic and modern designer furniture. All made in Italy. So if you can’t afford to acquire any of the pricey pieces, at least get the opportunity to sit on them while having a latte.

NERDCORE 2007 by Cherie Roberts

It's the hardcore gamer's fantasy - a utopia of retro button-mashing and joystick-tweaking, populated by cute girls playing to their heart's content. Arcade coin-ops, consoles, and handhelds galore. Cherie Roberts is renowned for his unique photography where he combines the concept of "geekiness" with a tint of sassiness in his work. Although some might pronounce that his work contains absurd amounts of nudity, I am not complaining. It's all fair game for these young ladies in this 2007 calendar of artfully-shot images by famed photographer Cherie Roberts. In addition to those *typical* calendar holidays (New Year's, Valentine's Day, etc.), the dutiful dorks at NERDCORE have taken the liberty of including the holiest of geeky happenings (International San Diego Comic-Con, Anime Expo, Game Developers Conference, Talk Like a Pirate Day, Tokyo Game Show, Transformers: The Movie opening day and other flagship flicks, and dozens of other key events). Peace!

ADIDAS Materials of the World Indonesia Series

Finally, some news from Adidas.. and it's good! Here's what Adidas say about it:

Inspired by the very act of creating a Batik-Made fabric which has a strong symbolic meaning for the Javanese. It is said that each time the Batik craftsman executes a particular intricate pattern the design is not only fixed to the cloth, but the meaning of the design is engraved ever more deeply in the soul of the Artisan. This highly skilled process, involving complicated dyeing and dye-resist processes, is regarded highly by many Indonesians as one of the six Priyayi or “High Arts”.

These pieces are definitely something to get excited about. It seems they're the first of a series of Adidas "Materials of the World" packs and this first one's a doozie. The Indonesia series includes two Metro Attitude Hi’s, a tracksuit and a cap and they're limited to 500 stock worldwide. As expected, they're goin for a pretty penny with the kicks at 200 EUR a pair at Overkill.

Kanye West Bape Stas

Just saw these puppies (or should I say cubs) and had to post em. Kanye West is definitely one of my personal favourite producer/rappers out there so this deserves a word :-P. It is a possible up and coming tribute to Kanye by Bape Sta. They seem to have gone away from the traditional patent leather and gone for earth toned premium leather instead. The shoe features the ‘graduation bear’ on the back heel with red lining, hold caps and outsoles. This is a great looking shoe and I hope it makes it to production.

Thanks to Hypebeast and NikeSB for the pics and info.

Parkour

What do you get when you take the board away from a street skater? Parkour! Also known as free running, this is the latest up and coming craze in the fight against urban boredom. Basically it’s a person running in a straight line, using any means necessary, to get from ‘a’ to ‘b’. Sound pretty simple right? The problem is you have to go through ANY obstacles in your way. This could mean flipping off a wall, jumping off a 4-storey rooftop or sliding under a truck but no matter what it is, nothing can prevent you from reaching your goal. This leads to people doing some pretty crazy things in order to get to their destination. Be warned though, this is not for the physically weak. In order to be successful you need to train but when you look at what some of these guys can do, it is definitely worth it. You can check it out at: http://www.americanparkour.com/

Puma Mongolian Shoe BBQ Online!

Oh my god, this could possibly be some of the coolest shit ever. The Puma Mongolian Shoe BBQ has gone online, and now, after you're done choosing whatever tickles your taste-buds in the comfort of your own home, PUMA will serve 'em up, à la Mongolian BBQ!! Actually check this shit out, I'm positively drooling at the moment. For those who are confused about why it's called a "Mongolian Shoe BBQ", it's cos at a Mongolian BBQ restaurant, you select your meat and vegetables from their large bar area and then take them to the grill area where your meal is prepared just for you. See the resemblance. I think it's genius! A more fun, tongue-in-cheek approach to customising than Nike ID, at least, that's what I think.. ^^

Click here to transport yourself to delectable culinary delights for your feet!

Thanks to Hypebeast for the heads up.

Adidas Spring/Summer 2007 Preview

For all you ADIDAS lovers out there (and I know you exist, don't be afraid to admit it =p ), here's a little sneak preview of what's in store for you next year. The only thing I see missing is some big-name collabs, which is kinda disappointing. But I'm sure you die-hard 3-stripes fanatics will eat this up like a lemon gelato on a hot day hahaha.

Victory Garden

Walker's successful debut during the New York Fashion Week isn't much of a surprise. Her playful mismatch collections will always be welcomed by those who are in constant search of novelty. Walker has undoubtedly mastered how to work with what is available and somehow, manages to produce whimsical pieces...Me, I like!!!

So, whoever said we were deprived of haute couture in Wellington? Certainement, ce n'etait pas moi!

A couple of my favourites from her latest "Victory Garden" New York Spring/Summer 2007...

PUMA G. Vilas Rebirth

Woah, check out these smooth puppies. These Pumas have been delved out of their archives and are looking so classy. The shoe pays homage to the long-haired playboy, grand-slam champion, Guillermo Vilas, who rocked the world with a 53 winning streak in claycourt after Wimbeldon in 1977. The shoe's aesthetics is sound: made from creamy white leather with a perforated suede toe and suede formstripe. The "1977" on the back of the shoe I think is a touch of brilliance, way to make each shoe inseparable from each either. This shoe is an authentic colourway of the original and is a Puma Special LIST edition. They will be ultra limited and drop in very selected stores around the world, with apparently production being limited to 216 pairs worldwide! I want my hands on one of these.. bad..

Dior Cruise 2007 Catwalk

Here's one for the ladies. A hand-picked selection by yours truly of what I think are the nicer looking garments from Dior's Cruise 2007 Catwalk. Although my taste in woman's fashion is.. well.. non-existent (meaning I don't fancy dressing up in it), I must say I'm a sucker for just-above-knee-length skirts and one-piece summer dresses. The models aren't too shabby either, I like their haircuts. Images from the Dior website. Enjoy~

boogie | photographer

Life doesn't get any harder than this. Check this site out: www.artcoup.com.

'Boogie' is a photographer based in Brooklyn and his work is nothing short of heart-stopping. He grew up during the 1993-1994 crisis in Belgrade, Serbia, and has developed a talent in documenting what might be called the "dregs" of society. It's All Good is a published collection of his photos about gang life in the grittiest parts of New York. You can order it from here. His website is chock-full of his unpublished photos so have a look there also and prepare to be taken to places most of us could only ever read about.
